Myelodysplastic syndrome occurs when the bone marrow does not create enough healthy blood cells. Our team of oncologists will consider the cancer’s location and stage and your overall health before we begin treatment.
We will focus on supportive care with regular blood and platelet transfusions to address your blood counts and antibiotic counter-infections. We also may use chemotherapy. Depending on your age and other factors, we may perform a bone marrow transplant, an effective treatment for myelodysplastic syndrome. When a transplant isn’t appropriate, we can use drug therapy to improve bone marrow function.
