Meningiomas are the third most common type of brain and spinal cord tumor.
Nearly one third of all primary brain tumors are meningiomas, making this type of tumor the most common benign tumor of the brain, especially in aging adults. Usually these slow growing tumors are usually noncancerous, however they may cause serious symptoms as they grow and press on the brain or spinal cord. Typically found in the cerebral hemisphere, meningiomas may remain undetected for years.
