Dr. Naren Ramakrishna is the director of the pediatric proton therapy and adult proton therapy programs at the Orlando Health Cancer Institute. A board-certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Ramakrishna also is trained in proton therapy, a type of radiation treatment that uses proton beams to target and shrink tumors. 

He cares for children as well as adults, and his specialties include:

  • Brain tumors/brain cancer
  • Spine tumors

Dr. Ramakrishna is part of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Program at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. He also is a principal investigator in a study focused on central nervous system malignancies at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer.

Dr. Ramakrishna’s Training

Dr. Ramakrishna earned his medical degree through the Medical Scientist Training Program at Cornell University’s Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. He earned a doctorate in cell biology and genetics from the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences. He performed a residency in radiation oncology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he was chief resident. He also completed a Koch Research Fellowship in gene therapy and received an American Association for Cancer Research-Glaxo Wellcome Oncology Scholar Award.

About Dr. Ramakrishna

Dr. Ramakrishna served for eight years on the faculty at Harvard Medical School as an instructor in radiation oncology. He also served as chief of central nervous system radiation oncology at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center and director of the CNS Radiation Oncology Fellowship Program. He is a diplomate of the United States Medical Licensing Examination and the American Board of Radiology. He is board certified in radiation oncology by the American Board of Radiology.

Dr. Ramakrishna has authored 12 book chapters and numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts. He has presented his work at national and international symposia. His current research centers on stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy and proton treatment for primary and metastastic brain tumors.
