The Cancer Center of Excellence Award recognizes organizations for demonstrating commitment to excellence by providing patient-centered coordinated care for those undergoing cancer treatment and therapy in Florida.
  • We received this award jointly with our partners at UF Health Cancer Center in Gainesville.

American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer Accreditation

Our Cancer Program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer (CoC). We are pending status as an Integrated Network Cancer Program with UF Health Cancer Center Gainesville. As part of our accreditation, we annually engage in multiple quality studies and quality improvements throughout the cancer center and in all aspects of cancer care.

Breast Care Center Accreditation

Our Breast Care Center has been accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Care Centers (NAPBC), administered by American College of Surgeons (ACoS), since 2013. This accreditation requires demonstrated compliance with breast-cancer-specific quality, outcomes, clinical standards, and quality improvement projects.

In addition, UFHCC Breast Care Center received the Women’s Choice Award for America’s Best Breast Center in March 2015. This award acknowledges our Breast Care Center’s dedication to providing exceptional patient care and treatment. Centers earning the award meet rigorous standards and measures of excellence from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) from the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Radiologists, Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE). Together, more than 28 criteria (including patient satisfaction feedback) are required to earn accreditation by both organizations. Fewer than 350 centers met the WCA standards in 2015, resulting in an elite group of centers devoted to women's breast health. UF Health Cancer Center at Orlando Health  was one of two cancer centers in Florida to receive this award for 2015.

Radiation Oncology Accreditation

Our Radiation Oncology Department is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) Accreditation for Radiation Oncology.

The ACR-ASTRO seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR and ASTRO after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.

Medical Oncology Certification

Our Medical Oncology Clinics are certified by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) Certification Program, an affiliate of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

Orlando Health UF Health Cancer Center has been participating in ASCO’s QOPI (Quality Oncology Practice Initiative) since 2012, with over 150 charts analyzed individually for nearly 150 discrete quality metrics with benchmarks against peer national cancer centers.  We have improved our overall quality by using areas of improvement and transforming our clinic processes.

Furthermore, we achieved QOPI Certification in March 2013. The QOPI Certification Program recognizes medical oncology and hematology/oncology practices that are committed to delivering the highest quality of cancer care.  The Certification Program evaluates an individual practice’s performance in areas that affect patient care and safety and provides a three-year certification.  This Certification Process requires a commitment to a comprehensive cancer-centric quality metric monitoring, analysis and reporting program with external site-visit validation and certification. UF Health Cancer Center at Orlando Health is currently preparing for re-certification in Spring 2016.
